According to my dealer I am at D1. Anyone know what exactly that means? I emailed CS on tuesday and they sent me a VIN. My order was placed 7/5 for a CC sport 2wd, no air ride.

Has anyone progressed past D1 yet?

I'm fairly new here and unfimiliar with the whole tracking details, but trying to learn.I just ordered a Laramie ED on the 15th.How do I go about getting my VON.The truck was ordered as sold and I did give the dealer my email address. Will this # be sent to me when the order is accepted or should I already have gotten it from the dealer when I placed the order? I realize I've got a long wait but want to stay on top of progress, when there is some waaaaay down the line.

It could take a few days to a month or more depending on how backed up they are right now they are backed up on the eco-diesel. Article posted earlier first 3 days only 400 trucks were ordered. Then the flood gates opened and 8,000 trucks have been ordered since.

"Because dealers have not yet received any Ram 1500 EcoDiesels, it's difficult to tell whether the retailers will tack on an additional premium over the sticker price to take advantage of hot demand.
Hegbloom said that he hoped they wouldn't, because the diesel-powered Ram is "an opportunity to conquest competitive brands, and if dealers don't treat new customers right, they're going to lose them.""

You mean like how the diesel option is $4500 in Canada and $2800 in US or how the the warrenty is less in Canada?

Lets see if there is an update on my truck at least today...

If they try to mark up my truck I will walk away. Not going to fall for the dealer markup stunts some dealers pull. I haven't seen them do that here in the Houston area but it happened quite often in the Washington DC area.

2015 isn't that far away.

Quick note, I am going to be really busy the next two days. Updates may happen late or not at all (hopefully the former).

Ok, the million dollar question: What's up with the C (or no status...)?

At first I saw only Longhorns/Limiteds in that status. Then ECODieselCanada added another data point with a C and a Big Horn. Doing some other checking pretty much narrows it down to the EcoDiesel engine. Y'all did order a few of them :)

It's now down to sorting out the backlog and getting them built. I am not 100% on this but that's my best educated guess at the moment. I am not sure why people reverted from D1 or D back to C. I can't explain that (and will probably cause more grief if I even tried to guess).

Hang on, at this point they should be built. I can't say I would guarantee it but there are at least 5 more months in the model year and the probability is high.

Thanks spp!!

Any thoughts on why GoneWithOutA and I went from "Staged for Shipment" to "Ready for Shipment" and then back to "Staged for Shipment" where we've been the last few days?

#2,055 ·
Wow, so from reading that the month of March the eco-diesel allocation has been met? So those of us that did not get in that first 8000 the first 3 days are out of luck until April.

#2,060 ·
Quote from article in part:

"Production of 2014 model-year trucks began in February, and shipments start in March. Ram expects EcoDiesel models to account for 10-15 percent of 1500-series orders this year. Another 8,000 units are allocated for March production, and according to Cappa, Ram has room to ramp up production if needed. In case you were wondering, you're not out of luck if you still want to get in on the first allocation of diesels. Individual customer orders take priority over dealers in Ram's computer system, so each one means fewer truck sitting on dealer lots."

I would think if you ordered next week you still would be put ahead of the dealer's allotment. I suspect they count the "customer" as No. 1 priority, and so they should.

#2,062 ·
With the sheer volume it has caught them off guard and my money is on they will ramp up production to keep up with demand. At least that is my hope. Figure the dealer won't have an answer for you for a couple of weeks. You might get lucky and get an email saying your order has been accepted and you get your VON.

#2,064 ·
I'm not so sure this is strictly a situation where they where overwhelmed by high volume of initial orders. My order was placed on Dec 23rd. It was the first day that Canadians could order. I should be one of the first ones on the list. My truck went from a D1 status and had a target ship date of Jan 30th to now being at a C status and not even scheduled. If the problem was that they are overwhelmed with orders, it should mean that the first ones should be released and built.

My guess is that they found a problem during the first batch and had to put all of those units in 'quarantine' for QA checks. I used to work in an assembly plant and if a vehicle spends over a week in QA, it meant that they were waiting for new parts or an update to an existing part. I think they found a problem and took all EcoDiesels off the schedule until they could resolve the issue. Once resolved, then we'll see trucks going back to a D and D1 status.

Just my guess but there has to be a reason that not a single EcoDiesel has left the plant yet. It really doesn't help that there are 8000 more trucks in the queue.

Let's all hope they resolve the issue quickly (ie. not something that requires new parts to be engineered and manufactured in Italy) ... and they get on their horses and start cranking out our trucks.

#2,068 ·
I think your guess is right on the money. I also placed my order on Dec 23/13 and it has only reached "C" status. I haven't heard of any ED's arriving at dealerships so suspect they are dealing with some issues. On the positive side; better to deal with problems before they leave the factory rather than us receive the vehicle and have to deal with them. Just have to be patient a little longer.

#2,066 ·
This is not a new engine. This motor might be new for Ram this year but it has been in production since 2009. Those kind of kinks are worked out by now. The press release Chrysler released earlier said the demand was double to triple what they were expecting. There has already been a test fleet that has been on the streets for a few months now for all the auto review people to try out and write up their reviews. Also this engine was in the 2013 Jeep Cherokee.

Press release:

"
2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Orders Top More Than 8,000 Units in Three Days, Filling Initial Allocation

• Between the afternoon of February 7th and the morning of February 10th, Ram Truck received more than 8,000 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel orders, which quickly filled the initial allocation for the exclusive powertrain
• First round of Ram 1500 EcoDiesel orders account for more than 50 percent of the total order mix
• Special order rate nearly twice the corporate average – an all-time high
• Overwhelming response attributed to best-in-class 28 MPG with 9,200 lbs. of towing capacity and strong consumer demand for exclusive light-duty diesel
• Actual customer orders for the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel take priority over dealer stocking orders

On the heels of EPA's certification of 28 MPG, Ram Truck opened the initial order allocation for the 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel to receive a flood of orders from dealers across the nation. More than 8,000 trucks equipped with the fuel-sipping engine that packs 420 lb.-ft. of torque have been placed-just over 50 percent of the total mix. Even more surprising is the amount of orders already paid for by customers- twice the corporate average of sold customer orders on a truck that customers have yet to test drive.

"The Ram 1500 is the only half-ton truck available with a diesel, so we see this as incremental business by having the only truck that can offer best-in-class fuel economy of 28 MPG combined with 9,200 lbs. of towing capacity," said Reid Bigland, President and CEO - Ram Truck Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. "It's every truck manufacturer's dream to have this kind of initial order demand for a product. Fuel economy is the No. 1 request of half-ton buyers and the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel delivers without compromising capability."

The EcoDiesel-powered 2014 Ram 1500 has earned a 28-mpg rating from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the best highway-cycle test result ever achieved by a full-size, half-ton pickup. It also exceeds the EPA highway rating for the top-ranked small pickup. The breakthrough results mean Ram keeps the half-ton fuel-economy record set last year by the 2013 Ram 1500. Equipped with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 gasoline engine, the truck earned 25 mpg highway, a rating that stands for model-year 2014. The Ram 1500 now owns the half-ton pickup segment's top two spots in the EPA's 2014 highway fuel-economy rankings.

Production of the 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel began in February with a group of specialized trucks in popular configurations. Normal processes place the initial build under quality review to assure every truck meets or exceeds targets. Shipping is expected in March, keeping the planned delivery within the first quarter of 2014.

Although Ram has reached its first planned order allocation numbers in three days, customers who special order the new truck will have priority in the build. Orders for dealer stocking will be filled once sold customer orders are filled. The next order allocation of Ram 1500 EcoDiesel trucks will open in early March.

Ram 1500
Ram 1500 - the most recognizable pickup on the road - delivers best-in-class fuel economy of 18 MPG city and 25 MPG highway with a truckload of pioneering, fuel-saving systems including a fuel efficient and powerful 3.6-liter V-6 engine and first-in-segment technologies: TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission, stop-start system, thermal management system, pulse-width modulation and active aerodynamics, including grille shutters and air suspension. For 2014, the Ram 1500 offers a new, 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine that delivers an outstanding combination of best-in-class fuel efficiency 28 miles per gallon (mpg) - unsurpassed torque and up to 9,200 pounds of towing capability.

You could order in Canada on Dec 23/13? US ordering officially started on Feb 7/14 I thought? Ecodiesels aren't supposed to get to customers until March.

#2,073 ·
Yep and trust me several people will pay it. So the the $2850 cost over the HEMI for the ED or the $4500 cost over the V-6 will be the mark-up PLUS the lack of incentives since you can just about bank on the fact Chrysler won't offer rebates on the EDs (general consumer rebates...things like USAA, military, etc. should still apply).
