I've done a search and didn't find any discussion on this so if it has been covered already I apologize.
Has anyone here put their 2500 through a drive-through automated car wash? If so, were there any issues?
We took Mrs. Hardware's Nissan Rogue through one this evening and it seemed like there wasn't a lot of room to spare.
I'll most likely hand wash my Ram or go to a coin operated wash bay (however I don't like using the brushes they have and would probably bring my own) but the black is hard to keep looking clean so it got me to wondering about the convenience of a touch-less drive-through.
Yes actually I take mine through a touchless car wash whenever there are just to many bugs on it. The only issue I have...not really issue more or less a requirement is I have to fold in my towing mirrors.
Another than that no issues. I roll the truck through there all the time.
Correct. I just use Rain-x on them once I go through if there was any dirt on the mirrors. The wash itself is just to get that top layer off. I always go back afterwords and dry/clay/wax the truck.
Hey guys, new to the site; saw this post show up in a google search and decided to join.
You need to be really careful at some of the car washes.
I had the RH tow mirror broken yesterday on my 2012 2500. Had the mirrors folded in an also down.
I had a '04 2500 that I took through there weekly and never had a problem, but for some reason on my new truck, the brushes on the car wash folded both mirrors back out.
I was able to roll down the window and get a face full of soap to fold the driver's side back in before it hung, but wasn't so lucky on the passenger side.
Completely ruined the mirror and broke all of the glass.
This was at a car wash attached to a Kwik Kar oil exchange place; the owner watched the CCTV and saw I wasn't at fault, so at the tune of about $600 it's getting fixed on his dime.
Just wanted to give you a heads-up. Might have been just a freak thing, but from now on I'm only going to wash it by hand.
Wouldn't this issue of fitment in a car wash kind of depend on the individual car wash? Here in Texas, you can bet "most" any car wash will fit the largest pickups...even duallys and such. I've never run into any car wash in my area that my full size trucks wouldn't fit in, and they didn't even need to have the mirrors folded.
I put my 1500 through a brushed wash all the time with no issues. I do have the mirrors folded in though. I wasn't sure at first actually so i asked the attendant on duty and he said that if i can go under the over-hanging height limiter then there shouldn't be a problem.
The car wash that is just around the corner from my place, is a Full Service Car Wash.
They employ about a dozen laborers.
They measured my Ram for height, because of my sign brackets, then for extra insurance, they tied bright ribbons to the highest points. They then drove my Ram around to the entrance, folded my mirrors in, washed the front grille area & the rims. Then they waited until all the vehicles were out of the machine & pulled the truck up to the bright ribbons to check for clearance. Then they backed it back outside & started up the machine & let it go through like normal. They waited until it came out the other end, before putting another car into the machine. I watched it all & i was imprerssed.
On the other hand, i have read several posts about others that have had vehicles jump over the tire rail & get damaged
I'll likely wash by hand 90% of the time, however in the depths of a northern winter, it'd be nice to be able to periodically take it through a car wash to get the salt off.
i have a 2012 1500 and i won't go true automatic car wash i did once and when i get to the blow drier stage when it gets over my hood it pushes it in like a didn't i cringed when i seen it thankfully once the blower was passed it was perfectly fine but could of sucked, and if it pushes the hood in i could imagine what their doing to the roof so much closer so i only hand was or coins bay
