So I have been fooling around with my engine cover for a while. I am definately not a pro painter! and its not quite finished but after working on my steps today I worked on finishing up on it. Now I just have to button up to light mounting and she's ready to go back on. What do you think? My wife of course says I've gone nuts
Ok so here's a pic of all the bits and pieces, plexi glass sanded with 60 grit reflector fabbed from light weight tin lined with reflective tape outside to be lined with heat shield for pipes (sled application leftovers) two 9" florescent tubes transformer in project box to keep dry plug spliced/soldered in so I can unplug to remove engine cover when needed. In the next couple of days I'll get some loom to cover the wires to make in pretty and get it all mounted and installed on the truck with a final pic of course
Weaveman no problem at all, I used a pair of nine inch flourescent tubes that I bought at Canadian Tire and put them behind a piece of plexiglass that I sanded (heavily) to diffuse the light coming through. I made a heat shield from some light guage tin and lined ot with good quality duct work tape (the silver/chrome stuff). All the parts are shown in the pics in answer #29 in this thread. If you have any other questions feel free I'd be glad to help you out
Thanks, I love your creativeness and your cleverness, always cool to be a leader, I try to be innovative also, so I can really appreciate what you created... Excellent job
Thanks for the kind words and compliment Weavman. I'm glad you like it, and I'll tell you, the pics don't do it justice. At night when I pop the hood it really gets a reaction that makes it all worthwhile and makes me smile everytime. Here's what it looks like with my CAI
Wow , I don't know how I missed this . I wasn't sure what a painted engine cover was doing in custom light section of the forum . I almost moved it until I read the thread . Awesome mod . I like it . Some rep for ya .
Juice, yes I shaved them off with a tool like this one. http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brow...BMulti-Max%2BOscillating%2BTool.jsp?locale=en
you can also just use a hacksaw blade with tape wrapped around it for a handle. You will find after you cut off the hemi a sharp knife cleans up the rest. but the 5.7 V8 do not go right through so you will need some kind of filler to make it smooth. I used a two part stuff for plastic bumpers.
