The check engine/ MIL light came on this morning on my 2-week old 2013 Ram 2500 with the Cummins engine.
It happened after my morning commute (about 10 miles). As I let the truck idle for a minute or so after driving in, the MIL/CEL light came on.
Is there a way for me to retrieve the code, or will I be heading back to the dealer?
My previous truck was a 2003 Ram 2500 with the Hemi engine. I could cycle the ignition key 3 times to retrieve any stored codes on that truck. The same trick does not seem to work on the 2013.
I suspect that a long-ish highway drive would remove the light, but want to know what the code is before doing anything.
Most any Advanced or Auto-zone will do a free OBDII Diagnostic check for you. I'm having to take my 2013 back tomorrow and they are saying its a O2 sensor issue. We will see.
Yup, any auto parts store should have one you can use in their parking lot. You may think about buying one as an inexpensive one can be had for around $50, they are handy to have around!
The code is P24E2, which neither place could recognize. Google is not much help for this code either. I saw it with my own eyes at both Advance and Autozone.
The truck is running fine, but now it has an appointment with the dealer on Monday morning.
Unfortunately this seems to be really common on the 2013 hd trucks. However I don't remember hearing that code mentioned. Hopefully it's nothing too serious
There is another discussion on here about the same subject... I had the same problem and brought my truck to the dealership apparently dodge is aware of the problem and it is a emission / computer problem they flashed my computer and updated the system and no problems yet (approx. 300miles since). Hope this helps...Good Luck
I just started another post on the same thing. I have the same truck 2013 dodge 2500 diesel. it has 3500 miles and the light has come on for the second time. They said something about resetting the computer. First visit was only a couple hours, but now the light has come back on. So another trip and who knows how long this time. Not happy about this.
I hope you guys get this problem fixed on your truck. This is one reason I bought the Hemi motor. The other reason is price. I am just too scared of the new age diesels. Once they perfect them it might be my next truck.
I have a post in the general area, threw a code for the transmission. My light came on at 65 miles, I had the truck 18 hours. They claim to have a new transmission coming after 2.5 weeks due in the 13th Aug. Not EVEN looking for any engine problems!
This happened to my 2013 Diesel as well. I took it out to freeway headed to the airport to pick up my parents...like came off. I didn't go into the dealership. It happened twice on my dads 2008 Ram Diesel and both times, took it to the freeway, cruised around 70 for a few miles and eventually the light came off.
Pretty much the truck was made to drive and not drive in the city. The Prius was made to drive to the store, the Ram Diesel was built to tow a big @ss trailer and blow coal....but i still prefer to drive the Diesel to the store!
My 2014 popped the P24E2 today, or at least I just noticed the CEL. Cleared it....will see if it comes back. What little I can find online says that it is "ammonia sensor" related. Not a big fan of this urea system in the frozen north. The solution spends more time as a solid than a liquid.
" The P24E2 code is related to the Ammonia Sensor Circuit Performance, however for more detail I would recommend you have the vehicle inspected by a Dodge dealer. Seeing as your Ram is a 2013 depending on the metrage, the vehicle should have warranty coverage for factory defects.
