Default new to ram1500 towing

ok first off ive been towing since 04 for different plumbing companys, small dump trucks/trailers (non CDL) and chevy 3500hd crew cab with tri axle construction trailer (loaded with plumbing fittings in tongue, cat track loader, 35D mini ex and pipe)

i got this job offer to be self employed digger for a plumbing company. so im looking to get a trailer and mini excavator in the near future. i just want to get opinions on if my truck would handle it. im not driving like hours to jobs everyday 90% of the work is within 10-20miles of where i live (one development is 2 miles down my road). all it would be at most 25-45mph. i live in Delaware so there is no such thing as hills/mountains here.

heres whats i got:
2012 ram 1500 quad cab
5.7L hemi
3.55 (just guessing, id have to check this but dont know how)
factory installed class IV hitch

my setup im looking at:
pipe rack (itll be empty most of the time, material gets delivered to job sites)
small bed box (with normal hand/power tools inside which i could ditch the box and just put them in the back with seats folded up or completely removed)
shovel, dig bar etc (normal digging tools that dont really weigh much)

cat 302.5c mini (operating weight 6283lbs)
5ton dual axle trailer kinda like this one

im going to order the factory brake controller and airbags for the rear. was thinking weight dist hitch will be the best way to go with this. any input is appreciated. thanks

well overloaded for the 1500, would not recommend it. that trailer alone is likely 3000lbs, with the excavator you will be overloaded, aadd the ladder rack, and the truck box plus tools, you are likely about 7-800lbs over gvwr

The 2500 with the Hemi doesn't get much worse mileage if you wanted to upgrade. However, Dragonmaster is correct. Way overloaded on the 1500.

If you get a double axle trailer to haul your excavator on and put 500 lb of hitch weight on your truck you should have around 500 lb of weight for you and what else for the truck. The trailer needs brake's on both axle!! YOU need to go on the internet and look it up! I jest did it has different weight for the size of tires reg cab up. It looks like 7000 up to 12.000 so go look it up.

yea ive been searching and reading hundreds of towing threads and all. ill look at tires now. a local gas company uses a lowboy dual axle trailer with their mini (basically same setup im looking to get) the gas guy said his 2008 dodge 1500 pulls it nice. but i didnt ask him the details of his truck.

throwing it out there, i used to tow a 5th wheel trailer with a 2003 chevy 2500 gas truck rated to tow like 12k lbs or something, it regularly weighed in at more than 5k lbs more than that

its not going to mess up the truck, just drive careful

but op, if your using the truck for real heavy duty towing and work use, the 1500 is going to start showing the abuse quick if your doing this daily.

id at least add a large auxiliary trans cooler, get a tune and firm up the shifts a bit so it slips less, etc

yea thanks for the opinions. ive decided im just gonna save up and buy an older dually 3500 diesel. but if it comes down to it ill use the 1500 empty with machine and trailer. my buddy told me worse case he'll let me use his truck until i can get one. its gonna be a good year before this all happens. until then ill save and keep watching for a nice truck and trailer.
