Will be placing an order for a cap (topper) (canopy) for my truck here in a few days. I think the Snugtop is a cleaner look with how it covers the tailgate but it looks like the Snugtop is a bit heavier and about $450 more than the Leer equipped the same way. Leer is more prevalent, they have dealers everywhere and I move constantly... Both have lifetime warrantee. I am leaning toward the Leer, I just can't justify the minimal appearance difference with the $450 price tag. I have had an A.R.E. and was satisified but not thrilled (always leaked) so I have opted to move away from the brand.
Anybody have any issues with Leer leaking etc? Any pics? Thoughts? Thanks!
I like the A.R.E products looks and quality. I think the bed caps on the Ram are part of the problem with leaking. They do not lay flat and the weatherstripping can't make full contact in some sections of the top rail. The caps are not very sturdy and have a tendency to flex under pressure.
i've been reading, watching, looking at the same thing...snugtop? leer? ARE? ugh.
i don't have any prior experience with any of them, so i'm forming my opinion based only on the youtube reviews, other forums, etc.
snugtop, if you are able to pay the premium, is the best all around. they use higher quality materials, especially on the hinges, latches and 3 seals under the shell where it sits on your truck.
leer makes a good product and i don't intend to bash it, but it does have a few areas that it shows a slight difference in materials/design.
ultimately i think it will be - find the one that fits your style/needs, with the options you want. you'll likely enjoy whatever brand you decide if it provides the look/options you are after.
I have owned several Snugtop products and have NEVER had to return to the installer for warranty work - so for me the fact that they don't have a lot of dealers around the country is meaningless. They make an outstanding product as as stated above they really are great in the detail such as things you don't usually think about like seals and hinges. After my previous experiences with Snugtop I would not look any further - they are worth the money+.
I do! It was a CX on a 2012 Silverado 1500. It leaked under the window in the front no amount of foam added by the dealer could get it to stop. When I drove in the rain my bed would get wet. It drove me nuts, they finally gave up and said there is nothing that could be done.
I have a ARE on my truck and it has been great. I had a few issues with the dealer not being organized but the shell has been nothing but a positive experience.. I bought a loaded model with dual LED lights strips, locks tied into the truck locks, fold down window and the Yakima rack. The ARE was $800 cheaper than the snigtop dealer and had features Snigtop did not even offer.
I've had the LEER for over 10 months and it hasten leaked. As you can see, from the attached photos, I went with the whole glass windows since I like the limo look.

Good looking truck, thanks for the Pic! I am sold, I am buying the Leer. Snugtop is sweet but not enough of a difference for me to eat the cost difference.
I've had my LEER for a couple years now. No leaks at all, I love it. I chose the LEER over the SnugTop for the sleeker look of the LEER. I also like the solid one piece window over that twp piece which is the only option with SnugTop. Here are some pics:
