Default So what is worn out in the front end...

I was out driving in the snow this past weekend, and I was in 4 hi going up a hill and started sliding, had to stop. Started going again and started spinning my tires and the front end was hopping like crazy, so much I thought it was going to shake the console loose. The wheel was turned and I was in 4 hi, and I was fighting for tractions. So what caused the hopping? Is that normal? What is worn out if the hopping is not normal?

I would check the outer u-joints for excessive play or being dry and binding.

There seems to be a little wobble with the wheels turned while in 4 hi, but yours sounds excessive unless you were really getting on it.

I was really getting on it, trying to keep momentum up. I was thinking u-joints my self, so hopefully I can look this weekend.

Sometimes, in that kind of situation, it is just the front-end bouncing. I have had it myself with no other issues. It is a tire starting to dig into the snow, then the traction is lost, unloading the axle. This can cause an oscillation. While not a symptom of anything, its still upsetting. Keep an eye out, but I dont think you have an issue.
