I suppose it could happen, and they may serve as a deterrent, but if someone really wanted the wheels the lock nuts can still be easily removed by hammering on a regular socket and turn...
My area is bad for chevs getting stolen and dodge tail gates. I have locking lugs just to slow them down from stealing my 35's and hopefully my alarm system will scare them away/ make em go deaf lol.
I have them on my truck because they came with it. They are more secure than regular lug nuts, and I find more security preferable to less. Even if they only slow thieves, they can still deter them because the more time they spend getting the wheels off, the greater the odds of them getting caught.
The dealership in Stony Plain had about 5-10 trucks jacked up and rims stolen. If you have nice rims yea for sure and especially the tailgate betcha that cost a few $$$$$
