Default Front band adjustment

I am looking into doing a front band adjustment for my 03 1500 5.9L SLT. I am under the impression the transmission is a 46re? I am thinking to do the band adjustment because I am get a "slip" at low speeds/light acceleration 1-2, sometimes 2-3. I also sometimes get a "slip" when I come to stop on a hill and quickly start off again. If I stop on an incline and wait a second or two I do not get the "slip".

I am just double checking these are conditions to warrant a band adjustment

My understanding, that is a pretty easy trans to overhaul. It might be worthwhile to completely overhaul her. May be a way to raise line pressure also. I see a lot of them start to slip around 200,000 miles.

I would love to overhaul it. I am just about at 150k miles but I have a baby on the way so I can't pay someone to do it. I went to school for automotive/diesels and have worked as a tech but I have a herniated disc in my lower back so wrestling down a transmission is out of the question, at this point at least. I just wanted to see if I could tighten up the shifting long enough to last past my next surgery and the birth of the baby. Unfortunate but I am just trying to "fudge" it until circumstances allow me to fix it "the right way".

Band adjustment wouldn't hurt, but it could also be low pressure from a clogged filter. And since you'd have to pull the pan to change the filter, you can do the rear band too. It's worth a shot. Might at least buy some time. If not, well, then you'll know before something gives and you're stranded at the worst possible time. And yes, it's an RE, most likely the 46RE. Congrats on the munchkin.

I didn't even think about the filter because the fluid looks pretty good. I guess I ruled it out with out giving it much thought. Makes sense if I'm in there to adjust the band to throw a filter on. The previous owner did no maintenance so I should have considered it.

Well remember, there are two band adjusters. The front is externally adjusted, the rear is internally adjusted and requires the pan removal.

Yeah, I'm aware the rear adjuster is in the pan. I was originally going to just adjust the front and leave the rear alone until you reminded me about the filter. I just didn't want to go through the trouble of draining/dropping the pan and gaskets at first. (I really hate ATF fluid)
