Default HELP!!! 5.7 Hemi

i have a 2004 dodge i have heard the power steering grinding for a while. i had autostarted my pickup and all when i went to leave, i reaized i had no power steering. i added a pint and it turned a a quarter of the way and stopped again. i then added over a quart more, turned it and i heard a loud pop and saw smoke from the engine, and it still does not turn. also, it kicks up and down idle by itself.

you say it kicks up and down at idle? what do you mean how far is the range? Also what was smoking? i can assume the power steering pump was smoking therefore it is fried. also need to take a look at why it fried? do you check fluids at least monthly? were you leaking before? if the pump is seized, and im pretty sure it is, since it is belt driven check your belts and pulleys as well. not enough details in op to diagnose. good luck though. luckily the replacement is easy and not that bad on the wallet, just make sure the front end is in the air when you burp the system

between 500 and 1000 rmp kicks up and down. it never crossed my mind to check i have been super busy and stressed and i should not have taken it out on my pickup thats for sure. the connections to the steering column look like they have fluid on them, and there is even fluid thrown all the way to the passenger side of the engine bay. my CAI is covered in it. also i forgot to mention that it has been around negative 20 - 30 degrees the last few days.
