Default 4wd shaft question

i have a 01 ram 2500 4x4 with a 5 inch lift and 35s dana 60s front and rear 46re tranny. when i stick my truck in 4wd hi or low my front driveshaft knocks. my friend has the same truck lift and all and has the same problem. we cant decied what to do to fix this problem tho. ive heard some people say you can shave a few mm off the yokes or the hogs head or were ever it is hitting to solve this problem but im not to sure and didnt want to jump into something. i think my yokes are hitting each other when they come over of the transfer case but cant tell cause i cant see them while driving. ive seen those extra pieces that go between the yokes to make the angle less server but i cant find them anywhere and have no idea what that would cost to do. if anyone has an easy fix to this problem please let me know.

much appreciated.

Lifting the truck does change the driveshaft angle (front & rear) & you need to get it back to stock or you'll go thru U-joints like crazy -- if not worse, like damage to the transfer case and/or differentials. Years ago some aftermarket companies sold wedges in different degree angles which you'd put in-between the axle & the spring mounts -- easy with leaf springs, not so easy with coils. But that's the best way to go & usually you don't have to lengthen the driveshafts -- although you might with higher lifts.

If you cannot find those wedges, basically angled lift blocks, find a fabricator in your area & have some made -- any good machine shop could measure what the angle is now, look up what it was from the factory & make the pieces necessary to get the front & rear driveshaft angles back to stock. And if the driveshafts do have to be lengthened, there are shops which do that too -- cutting & changing the driveshaft length often has to be done in cars modified for drag racing.

Consider a body lift next time, the joints won't self destruct, and neither will the steering control suffer, and stay away from bias ply tires, keeps the death wobble away,as well as the center of gravity, keeping the wheels all on the ground to a higher tilt angle. That double cardan joint is very inexpensive to overhaul, a ballsocket kit and 2 ujoints are all thats required, I had a 79 F-250 years ago that I removed it on, replaced the double cardan with a single u-joint and extended the front shaft, worked just fine, but it sounds like you are exceeding the design limits of your driveline angle and no matter what you do to your unit, until you lower the frame and pick up the body, you're going to eat a lot of parts. cannot replace the laws of physics by sheer will!! The biggest problem I've had with body lifts have been making the reese reciever height look right, and extending the brake flex hoses.
