Well if you want to save fuel, you have to accellerate "quick" to your end driving speed, then just hold that speed.

"long" accelleration raises the fuel usage, even if this sounds strange for some guys.

Which doesent means you do kickdowns all the time, but remember this example:

You accellerate 20 seconds until you reach "your" speed.

or you accellerate 10 seconds until you reach "your" speed.
means you drive allredy 10 seconds in highest gear and save fuel and used a little more fuel for accelleration.

But this thingy may change immediatly when you have a stop-n-go track.

Yep ^ happy mpg medium at a "normal" acceleration rate.

If you read the owners manual ECO stands for Economy. Which tells you the engine had gone into Multi Displacement from 8 cylinders to four.

Yup its like a game try and keep it at 20 mpg for me anyway.

That may be true for the hemi with mds (I'm not sure if it is or not but if you saw it in the manual then ok), but the 4.7L doesn't have mds....it simply is a sign that you're driving efficiently (high vacuum....low engine load)...

Not exactly true, it means you are driving in a fuel effiecient manner and/or in mds mode. There are times when the Eco will be displayed and running on all 8.

I play the same game! Just purchased a brand new 2011 Ram 1500 Tradesman, 5.7 Hemi, and I want to get max MPG. I'm never in a hurry, always very gentle on the throttle, and use cruise control 98% of the time. My driving is 99% highway. I set the cruise at 60 MPH and settle back as I watch that nice little "ON" next to ECO stay on over 95% of the time. Most of my trips are 160 miles long.

Am currently running a MPG check. With 631 miles on this brand new truck, topped off the fuel right to the brim with 89 Octane. This took over an hour at home as I added almost 3 gallons more to the tank just after filling up at the gas station. It takes so long because the air pressure has to equalize inside the tank each time I add a few ounces. Checked it again the next morning just to be sure fuel was still right up to the brim. Will post my finding when test is completed.

I was gonna get a tonneau strictly to increase MPG but guys in this forum are saying they don't increase MPG. Any comments on this?

Any mpg increase by a bed cover is offset by it's weight. Tailgate up with/without cover is the best. If you want a cover great, just don't get one looking for mpg.
