Angry Huge loss of low end torque

This may have been covered and if it has I apologize.

I replaced my factory muffler with a Flow Master series 40, removed the resonators and added a K&N CAI on my '12 1500 5.7 Hemi but lost my low-end torque. The truck runs like a raped ape after about the 3000 RPM mark and I had significant gains on my mid and upper ends....but getting there from a stand still is a miserable experience.

Did I take away too much back pressure? I have never seen a truck be such a dog off the line then press you back into your seat seconds later when the RPMs catch up.

Anyone have a clue on what's going on with this thing and will a tuner fix this?

Thanks in advance guys.

did you reset pcm after install? if not, over time the pcm will learn new flow characteristics and adjust the tables and it will almost surprise you when it does wake up..

Will it reset by simply taking off the battery terminals and letting it set for a minute or two?

i've heard that...in the 3rd genners we just pulled fuse 23 and held the key to start position for 30 sec or so...then drive it hard for a short while so that pcm learns your driving characteristics and adapts

Did you figure anything out or did your truck ever wake up. I just did the same thing and noticed a big power loss when I take off from a stop.

Probably not what you want to hear but you could put in a stall converter and that sucker would really scream if you just flash all the way up to 3000rpm

I've left 3 emails today...because they were closed by the time I got home. I am not happy...it was stronger with the stock exhaust!!!!

I'm hoping they have a fix for me tomorrow..................this sucks. What a buzzzz kill.

Resetting the PCM did help out but it doesnt take long for it to slowly go back to its norm. Im thinking the only solution that is viable right now for my finacial position is replace that series 40 muffler with something a little more restrictive and then install a tuner.

I have read that fuse #19 on the 05's disconnected the traction control.....can anyone advise on which fuse disconnects it on the 12's??

I have read where several people have experienced a loss in low end power with Flowmasters in particular. I had a similar experience with a FM on my last Ram. Couple of thoughts on the matter.....

For one, I have often wondered if at least some of our "perceived" loss of power is actually just due to us being able to hear what the engine is doing much better with an aftermarket exhaust. Does being able to hear the engine working so much better make us think the engine is working harder to do the same thing it did before?

Also, from what I have seen, the general theory seems to be that swapping mufflers lessens backpressure and this is what causes the loss of low end. Makes sense as I wouldn't think there is any chance that a FM is more restrictive than the stock exhaust. However, from what I have seen, owners switching to Magnaflow systems are much less likely to experience the perceived loss. And if you search, there are threads showing that in general MF mufflers make better power numbers than FM. Yet MF is a straight through design rather than chambered like FM and is supposed to be a very high flow muffler. One would think a MF would create even less backpressure.

Just food for thought.
