Default Thoughts on Strait "Y" Pipe Exhaust

I'm considering putting the strait "Y" pipe exhaust on my truck. I know that there aren't any performance gains. I just find the truck too quiet the way it is. I can't see much of a power loss due to less back pressure, I don't think that the factory muffler is that restrictive. I'd like to hear from those of you that have it, what do you think? Is there any drone while cruising? Is it too loud in the cab while driving normally? Thanks.

I don't have straight y, I have a flowmaster and love it so I can't really comment on the straight y. Just wanted to make a suggestion have you ever thought about electric cut outs? That way you can have it loud when you want and tame in other situations.

straight piping is too loud incab ALL the time....get an exhaust and do a cutout..then you could choose to be loud some of the time....

I have heard that with other mods like headers or cai and TB you get pretty good gains with a y-pipe

I was pretty curious on this set up too. Not trying to go cheap method, but adding a strait Y pipe leaving resonators on is my suggestion! Honestly, from all the videos on You tube, having a series 40 or 44 Flowmaster doesn't sound much different than having a strait Y pipe w/ resonators on. Leaving the Resonators on deadens the sound anyway, and most people cut the resonators off and use the Flowmasters.

My only question is, does using a strait Y pipe mess with the engines back pressures. Back pressure is a weird topic all on it's own though....

I have a 2012 5.7 and deleted the stock muffler while keeping the resignators. Also known as the "straight Y". And man what a sound difference. the truck actually sounds like a hemi now. Yes, it is a little louder than stock in the cab but I tend to blast my music anyways. and when you get on the gas... OH MAN! In my opinion, worth it and is way cheaper than an $800 exhaust.

It will be very loud. I deleted the cats on my 4.7L, used all SS mandrel bent pipe, and have a dual in 2.5"/single out 3" magnaflow 22" long muffler with stock resonator/tail pipe on my 4.7L and it's pretty damn loud. It's louder than when I had cats with magnaflow y pipe and a 14" knock off muffler with stock tail pipe. I'd get a muffler. Sraight through mufflers are great because they are reasonable noise volumes for every day driving but when you go WOT it's still crazy loud.

Mine has minimal drone at ~1600-1800rpm. Unfortunately that happens to be at ~70mph lol. But it's not that bad, I drive through multiple states at a time and it doesn't bother me.

Why use a Y pipe. Just go straight back to the resonators, you wont have a problem. That makes it a true dual system. It is simple, and not very expensive. As for drone inside, I wouldn't know. I have two Aero turbine mufflers on mine. Very little drone at hwy speed, and very little noise driving around town. If you want your Hemi to sound like a Hemi, go with straight through to the resonators.
I have a video on here, you can here what my truck sounds like. Its under the thread Aero turbine dual exhaust, here in the exhaust section.

I just put a mufflex dodm80 (muffler delete y pipe) on Sunday. Inside it's really not that loud or droney surprisingly. Idle its very mellow, but when you get on it, she barks real good. So glad I went with this over the 14" maggy...
