I have told this story on other forums, not sure if I did here but...

This past tax season the woman and I knew we needed another vehicle. After thinking I said we should get a truck to do work. We have a barn to dismantle and we would have an excuse to get a trailer and/or boat. I was a bow-tie fan for many years. Most of my trucks were of that brand. So we set a price of $1500 and I started to look on Craigs and locally. I had strict criteria for the truck I wanted. (1) It had to be 4 wheel drive. (2) It had to have a V8. (3) It had to have an EX or Club cab. (4) It could NOT be a Ford. After two weeks of looking I spotted this pretty white Ram which was advertised as being a V10. I called him and it seems like most people were afraid to buy it because it loves to drink fuel. The owner was an older guy who was moving. He used to haul antique tractors, (He left the louvered tail gate and runners for the 5th wheel setup). He was not going to be there to show it but his friend and neighbor could do the deal. I remembered how I first saw these in '93 when I worked for Chrysler. I never thought I'd own one let alone see one again. The truck was immaculate. It had been sprayed and had zero rust, the interior was like he never used it. He had told me on the phone that is was garage kept...anyway...It doesn't leak or burn, cough, fart or anything else that a nearly 20 year old truck would do. So, with cash in hand I spent $2500 and bought a truck that was a regular cab, non 4 wheel drive truck, (wasn't a Ford at least!)...take the fact that it was the first year for the V10 and they are OOP, I thought it was a piece of history that I could not bear to pass up. It also had a premium hitch and tri-ball, and 100psi air ride suspension. So I wiped the drool off my chin and paid every penny the guy asked for. I love the truck more than any other vehicle (aside from the Porsche 911) and plan for it to be my one and last truck. I shall rebuild and care for her all of my days. I remember how I lost a 1979 Formula Firebird with a 403ci Olds engine. I was more upset over loosing the big block...but those feelings are gone now that I own a 488ci V10 !

This may sound cheesy but the biggest reason I bought mine was because of the movie Twister. I was only around 3 years old when it first came out but the one thing that always stuck in my heasd watching that movie was that big red dodge ram that Bill Paxton drove around in and from the time I was 7 till now one of my dream vehicles was a dodge ram V10 and last august I finally bought it. It was honestly one of the best days of my life so far. Sadly the truck I bought wasnt red but that should change in the next year or 2. But Ive gotten all the other stuff on the truck like clearance lights on the roof, the cb radio antennas, even the same cb and scanner setup. Overall though I love the truck, and will keep it till the day I die. Its either Mopar or No car.

I found out something years back about the truck in that movie. For the parts where portions of the truck get crushed or damaged they actually had to cut into it because it was built too well. It wouldn't crush or damage easy.

i bought mine after driving past it several times on my way to school (4 years ago now) and actually thought it was a v8 but one day i finally stopped and checked it out and sure enough was a v10 but at $4500 for a good condition stock extended cab long bed with power mirrors and locks i decided it was worth it. (especially since it recently had the whole top end rebuilt after a blown head gasket) I havnt exactly been gentle on the truck iv taken it to mud bogs climber a couple hills and even street raced some cars and to my enjoyment beat most that i raced. and the old truck just keeps on chuggin long. my favorite race was a early 2000 ford fx4 with $2500 in a chip borla exhaust and other goodies and my at the time stock v10 had no problem passing it. below are some pictures of my travels. the first one is the first mud bog i went to where i pretty much sank my truck trying to avoid the 4 ft deep trench and the second one is the resulting mud on the engine but despite sucking muddy water into the engine it never skipped a beat. the 3rd is the second mud bog with the new bumper. the 4th is my improvised parking spot at school since all the others were taken. the 5th is my little hill climb.

To be honest I was looking for a 2nd gen 360 3/4 ton truck with a 5 speed. couldn't seem to find one and then I saw the V10 trucks, did a little research, realized that I wasn't losing fuel mileage by going bigger, so here I sit with a V10 dodge that will pull anything, and I'm only getting 1pmg less than my buddies 360 truck.

always wanted a Viper.....but being in the Cascade Mountains, that wasn't practical.....not to mention the price. So I bought mine figuring I was 2/3 the way there. Its also the first vehicle I bought new and paid off. Still have the beast.

They were just plain "King of the Mountain" when they came out. I wanted a good tow rig just in case I got a race car later on. Quiet, smooth, torque monsters. How could you not love them, I still do. It's a 97 3500 4x4 with 150k and it still runs great and looks killer too.

And what kind of race car would a guy tow with an old Ram Truck? Probably something like one of these old clunkers.

I have 2 v10 dodge 2002 slt-plus one auto the other manual.was origanlly looking for cummings but price and maintinance pushed me toward the v10.i am a mechanic by trade so parts cost really sold me.the initail buy cost more than off set any fuel cost.
my manual gets 17mpg empty the auto gets 12mpg on the high side after i did what i can at this point.im hopeing to get it to 15mpg after more fine tuning and parts mods. the other reason i bought theses was towing capacity and the intireor is pimp fully loaded.
