Default weird ... remote start fail AND transmission won't go in D

it was pretty cold this morning, -26 C
truck wasn't plugged in but never had a problem starting it yet.
I started the remote start, when I saw there was still frost on windshield, I gave it another go.
I went to the truck and realized that the 2nd remote start failed. The evic said the remote start failed. so I started it again and went out scraping. When I came back in, I put the truck in drive and I couldn't! I went right to +- on the right and showed 4th speed. The lever would go R, N and P but not D.
I turned the ignition off and then started it back up and no problem.
After work tonight, I did a remote start, no problem and no problem with gears.
could these two things be related?
anyone with these kind of bugs?

I've had an issue that ranks up there with you. Mine was similar temp -31c, started truck with remote twice. Got it truck to go and noticed auto 4 wheel drive wasn't showing in the evic, looked at the dial on the dash and i was in auto but the truck was not. Turned off restarted and all worked as it should. Next morning same temp same problem, haven't been able to recreate the problem though.

It's the truck's way of telling you it's too cold, screw work, go back to bed

No kidding! a heck of a winter we're having!
going for an oil change tomorrow, see if an error message or code shows up on their computer.

Thanks Stump3r, I thought it might be cold related too. Unless a glitch in the remote start tricked the computer in there somewhere..

OK, let me make sure I understand. When you say it wouldn't go into D, do you mean you couldn't physically move the shift lever past Neutral, or do you mean the lever would go into the D position but it would only show "4" on the dash (not "D")?

I suspect the latter, and if so then I suspect the trans was in limp-in mode. If so, there should be a fault code set. Have your dealer check for a trans fault. Maybe you had some kind of momentary electrical glitch...

Dash: P R N D +/-
I could move the lever but it would not stop on D, it would go directly to +/- and display 4 . The lever would NOT stay on D, could not, I think it was greyed out, can't remember now but definitely NOT on D

"D" and "+/-" are the same physical shift lever position. There is no separate "+/-" position. The dash display changes from "D" to "+/-" when you enter ERS mode (or, as you've discovered, when you're in limp-in).

So it sounds like the shift lever itself was in the DRIVE detent, but the dash was displaying only "+/-" and not "D". So you were in limp-in. Have your dealer check for a transmission fault code. Or (since the condition has apparently disappeared) don't worry about it. As I said, likely some momentary electrical issue (maybe a bad connection somewhere, low voltage, etc.) that has now corrected itself.
