Question Any power loss with muffler delete?

I know these trucks like a little back pressure. I'm assuming there is a little low end loss.. Can anyone confirm? How noticeable?

When I did the Borla Catback system, picked up 12 rwhp on dyno or thereabouts. So there is proof that the stock is pretty restrictive. I think it's going to be extremely loud for the street. Mine is an 05, so they might have gotten freer flowing.

I don't know if just taking the muffler off will lose power, but I just put a catback on my truck and drove around for a bit without anything after the y pipe. I noticed I lost a bunch of low end, which came back and them some with the new catback.

Really? Wow!

Some on these boards will tell you how great the OEM exhaust is....

Points!

Gas engines needing 'backpressure' is a myth. What they need is a properly designed exhaust system, of the correct diameter and length, with as few restrictions as possible. You lose power with a short open pipe from the lack of scavenging that proper system creates.

hydrex, Did you by chance get data at 1600RPM stock vs Borla?
The perfect exhaust system would somewhat like the VVT valve system, adjusting as RPM and torque needs change. There is no perfect exhaust system for street driven cars/trucks. On one end you gain, but the other end loses. Your best bet is make the exhaust system to match your driving style. If somebody can make a adjustable exhaust system to work and last on the street......you would be RICH!!!
