Default 4th gen reliabilty?

hey guys im thinking about upgrading my 02 quad cab for a 4th gen crew cab. ill be getting used and a hemi 4x4 to use for towing my 16' car trailer and jeep. Ive had allot of electrical problems with my 02 plus other things (motor, springs ect, ect) but that's expected of a 12 year old truck with almost 200k.

I looked at the 4th gen threads and id say 90% were problem threads, are these trucks ironed out yet or are some years better then others? just don't want to spend 20k plus on something that is going to have the same problems or more then my 02. and again with the electrical , I don't want to be chasing down window wires and lights that flicker on and off.... and my favorite , the wipers go off all on there own..... even when im in my house with the keys in my pocket lol

I love the look and finish of the 4th gens just worried that ill be working on it more then my rock crawler.

thanks guys

90% of those threads you've viewed have been problem threads?

Really? That high?

Remember, very few people will post about non-issues in comparison to those who jump on the keyboard in a heart's beat to let the voice be heard about any [small] issue.

Nature of the beast of boards in general but a little more so here, IMHO.

Anyway, I own a 4th Generation Ram 1500 and to this day - with about 27K on the clock - zero problems after a handful of [minor] engine/suspension/drivetrain modifications.

What year/model are you looking at?

maybe not 90% but its pretty high lol I meant no disrespect to the trucks as I have 5 mopar/jeep products in my yard as of now

I know that most people aren't gonna jump onto a forum to post about the great day they had with their truck and are much more likely to post about all the bad things that happen.

Im looking at 2010s up to 13s i wanna spend between 25-30k or under if i can and get a good all around truck for day to day but also haul my crawler every other month or so. I jumped on here to see some reviews but saw some complaints also. I guess im asking what would be the better years to look at ? I know sometimes you want to stay away from the first year of a new design. and if you guys have used your 1500s to tow trailers and how they preform? my 02 had allot of problems from e; electric to heater vents to wind whistling through the doors

2013 & 2014 models, yes, I would agree with you as to the overwhelming number of issue/problem threads [especially the 13' year/model] that scatter all over these boards.

Prior to 2013 and all the way down to the 4th Gen's first birth year [2009] is a lot less issues, IMHO; as these board's threads will attest to.

Good luck.

My 2010 is 3.5 years old with 40,000 kms and I have not had a single problem with it. Here's a thread that shows off my three year old http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=154930

Default 4th gen reliabilty?

like mentioned- the number of posts on here are not a true indicator of reliabilty. it's no different on the F150 forums or Chev forums. A good deal of the posts are looking for answers to a problem, and that's what sends them to a forum. So far I am really pleased with my '13 and have no issues. My previous F150 was full of problems and I unloaded it at 69000km. It's a crap shoot. All makes, models and trim levels may have gremlins, some see them, some don't. From what I have read prior to buying my 13, Ram seems to have it dialed in now. Only time will tell

I will echo Grubs comments above, and add that I have not had so much as one problem with my truck in the 18 months I have owned it.

My 12 has been great for 30K miles. Only problem is that I broke a side mirror glass. $230 for a piece of glass with two wires on it!!!!!

Am I allowed to complain here that my truck won't start unless the block heater's been plugged in, even yesterday when it was +4C I can't drive it anywhere right now without worrying if I'll be able to start it back up if it's sat for a few hours not plugged in. I'm not sure if it's the new engine, new compression ratio, supercharger, or just the tune. *Sigh* the things we do for speed.
