Precisely. Have not really thought about a loudness control for years, but found myself wishing this stereo had one.

I'll check out that Kicker set too - I was not aware of it.

Have run Infinity Reference speakers before and thought they were a pretty good bang for the buck. If Kicker is as good or better, and you can get a "three pack" that might be the better option. Guessing they are 2 ohm as well.

The Kicker speakers are 4 ohm. Video on Youtube of a guy testing them, because his volume dropped so much when he put the Kickers in. Needless to say, he put the Alpine back in.

Ahhh... 4 ohm won't do. Thanks for the heads up.

What are your thoughts on the middle speaker Lizzardking? Worth replacing, or better off just deleting?

And, another question, if you don't mind? Which JBL's did you use in the dash?

I had previously been thinking to use the Infinity Reference 3032cf, which are 2 ohm and last I looked only $60 a pair. I just hit Crutchfield and find those speakers are no longer for sale (I'm sure I could find them available somewhere, and probably cheaper, but I like buying from Crutchfield, have had superb customer service from them).

The replacement suggested is the 3002cfx, for $100 a pair. But, for today, they are buy one pair get a second pair free, which would cover that pesky middle speaker with one left over. But! They are 4 ohm (or 3 + 1 for the wire run). So, I'm not going to use them.

Anyway... Be interested in the model of JBL's you used in the dash.

Thanks!

BTW... I found the 2 ohm JBL's, they are the GTO328. About $60 at Amazon. The Infinity 3032cf were also still in stock at Amazon this morning, for about the same amount.

Either one of those takes care of the dash speakers cheap and easy.

I think the next step will be doing something about the sub.

Yes, the GTO328's would be the ones to go with. You can get them on ebay much cheaper than Amazon. I like my middle speaker hooked up, keeps the sound more centered in the dash.

Another thing, you don't want to go with a coaxial speaker in the front door, it would be a waste. The fronts are low range only...when I had my meter on them, it was 500hz and under. You can make your own woofer like I did. I bought the JBL's, took the tweeters out and put a dust cap over the center, making a woofer only for my front doors.

Just an update...

I replaced all three dash speakers with the Infinity 3032cf's. Super easy, not too expensive, made a very noticeable improvement.

I think probably the sub is what's next, but I am totally undecided on which way to go. Not sure if I should throw any money at all into improving the factory sub with an amp. But going with a whole new sub and box and amp is more money than I have to play with right now. If I decide to go that route, it will have to wait a little while.

Maybe I'll look into the door speakers next instead.

Anyway... Dash speakers done, fairly cheap and easy, nice improvement.
