Default Does scratch remover work?

2014 Ram, 1500 miles on it *sigh*

We were 90% of the way to mom & dad's in Massachusetts when we crossed paths with a truck hauling scrap metal stuff. Something fell out of that truck's cargo and bounced off the road, glancing off the hood. We don't know how bad things really are till we get the truck home and wash it off, but from what I can tell quickly we have some light scratches right in the middle of the hood. I don't think the metal's affected and I am hoping the scratches are only in the clear coat.

So the next question is, how to tackle it? Take it to a shop or deal with it myself? I have a lot of cleaners from quick detailer to clay bar to bug & tar remover to polishing compound, just not sure how gritty will be too gritty for the task at hand.

I'll have to post some pics once I get the thing home and clean so you can feel my pain.

Use light compound and use a clean soft cloth..... Do it by hand first if that fails then use the polisher REAL lightly.... Slow speed you don't want to burn the paint.... Then wax it real good... U should be fine... If its still there and don't want to paint the hood... Well you can always stripe it...lol....

drag the back of your fingernail across the scratch, and if it does not catch, your light polish should be enough to take it out 9depending on what it is), but i wouldn't use a cloth to apply.

either use a foam pad or a microfiber pad to polish it out. depending on what type of "cloth" you are using, you may end up with a bigger mess.

posting a few pics will also help....
