has any one used Schaeffers in their ram? Back when i had my ford f350 powerstroke every one on the diesel forum i was with swore by it. There was even a guy who went as far as taking a bunch of different oils ie mobile1, amsoil, walmart brand synthetic, few others and schaeffers and had them sent to a lab for a blind test and came back with these results. i dont remember what all of them ranked but Schaeffers out preformed all of them by a land slide. I put it in my truck and for the first time in my life after an oil change i noticed a difference. The idle was more smooth and consistant alot of the vibration was gone and it was much quieter on top of that it kinda made the truck feel like it lost a bunch of weight or something. That was the diesel world though so im not sure about us guys with gas engines. It would be something to look into though.

Pennzoil in the Ram 5.7 & 5.9, the 2500 diesels get Pennzoil different grade and ATF-4 in the automatic transmissions.

Just did my 4th oil change this weekend and I have used Aimsoil Signature Synthetic line since the initial change
A bit pricy, but it works well for me.

It makes absolutely no difference. We have run so many Fords and Dodges over 250k for years with different oils. Never an engine prob. and we abuse our trucks sinfully. The only thing you need to do is change it religiously within 3k miles. If you do that then use whatever oil you want.

You will run across these guys that say, Oh it works so good, I never had a prob, it idles better.....all bs. Trust me it doesn't matter.

Currently I use Quaker State. I think the poll had it as "Quarker State" lol. Why? The jug looks nice. Why not?

But I do change it religiously every 3K miles. I used to have the dealer change it when it was new and would today except for one incident that happened. I took the truck into the Dodge dealer, you know the "one that knows Dodge Rams inside and out". Of course they know what they are doing, right? After all they are the dealer. You would think so.

After waiting an hour, they tell me the truck is ready, I pay the bill, get the keys. I go out into the lot and start the engine. After about 5 seconds the CEL light comes on and it shuts off. I try it again and it won't start. Still get the light. I look in the back of the manual for what it might mean and find nothing. So I walk back to the service desk and tell the service guy what happened. He gets a disgusted "not again" look on his face as he walks out towards the truck. I see him immediately open the hood and pull the dip stick.

At that moment I got a sinking feeling. He puts the stick back in and closes the hood. He tells me the didn't put enough oil in the truck. Then he makes some lame excuse about hard hard it is to get it right with "these trucks". Next thing I see the pimply faced service kid out climbing in my truck, DRIVING IT INTO THE SERVICE BAY!!!

At that point I am steamed. When I get the keys back I tell the service guy to note this incident in the computer record in case there are problems down the road. When I get it back again I check the oil before I start it.

The two weeks later, their "quality" person calls to ask how I liked there service. I informed them that I did not like it. In fact it sucked.

I have since learned several things about dealer repair shops. For one, it was probably the pimply kid that did the oil change. You think they are paying Mr Mechanic to do those? think again. Also those mechanics are not Dodge specific but rather hired gun independent contractors who may or may not know a Dodge Ram from a tin can of spam.

Since then I have done all my own oil changes. Don't get me started about quickie lube shops.

Ever since I learned how to change my own oil as a teen I have. I'm on the door step of 30 now and I take pride in changing my own oil. I used to go to Pep Boys to purchase everything until they started charging for oil disposal. Now I look for the sales on the oil and filter but head to Autozone for their free disposal.
