Default 98 Ram 4x4 rear

Need to replace TracLoc clutch right side. How bad of a job is it and any special tools needed?

Its a decent job...you have to take the diff out of the axle and there are a bunch of special tools that compress the clutch packs so you can take the side gears out. I've never replaced the clutches personally but I will be very soon since my 2000 ram has a broken Belleville spring on the left side. It's so old that I'll be lucky to find all the special tools where I work.

Did it; replaced tracloc clutch pacs took us about 5 hours just because we had never did it befor probably be able to do it in 2 now that we know what we are doing now. It is a two man job just because it is a juggling act holding everything in place when putting it back together. Taking it apart was cake because the clutches are worn, Putting it together was a bear. Hint rolling the side gears into place we had a axel in a vice and the carrier on the axel ring gear down, and turning the carrier to roll the gears into place do not be afraid to put a little ass in to it once the side gears are in place we took the carier off the axel and put second bolt in and compress the clutches to slide the concave shims in behind the side gears. hope this helps good luck.

I just put mine together a couple nights ago. Unfortunately my cross pin bolt broke so I'm waiting on a new one. I had the advantage of using the chrysler special tools to put mine together but what a P.I.T.A it was to put the gear, clutches, and retainers all in at one time, I ended up using trans gel to glue the retainers to the clutches, that made it a little easier. All in all I have maybe 2.5 hours into it (took the pinion out too and replacing all the bearings)...still waiting on my pin bolt, mopar doesn't offer one anymore so I had to go aftermarket.
