CaptDuff and gcscott, how long have you had your specific HID conversion kits installed? How do they hold up? Lighting is my next mod but next to changing the bulbs I am still on edge about doing the conversion.

Gcscott, can you post a link to the HID kit you used?

I installed fog lights from DDM Tuning http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=147191

And I just installed the low beam headlights this last weekend and I got them from Retro Shop. http://www.ramforumz.com/showpost.ph...&postcount=660

Everything is working and no problems so far.

For what it's worth, I installed Phillips Xenon lights on mine (highs, lows & fogs). Full wiring harness and ballasts. They've been on the truck for almost 2 years now and no problems at all.

Where did you get a Phillips set? I love HIDs but I have not had the best luck with them. I have had maybe a dozen kits over the years between my vehicles and friends vehicles (that I installed) and some work great (had some in my Honda that worked great for 4 years with no issues at all) but then some work for a month and then bulbs don't light up, ballasts go out, etc. Most of my kits were from DDM.

So, if I could buy a good NAME BRAND quality kit, I would be more likely to put one in my Laramie. I have searched high and low (good pun there) for a name brand (read non-Chinese) kit with no luck.

I don't think you will find a complete HID kit made in the USA. China or Korea is where most of the parts are from. You need to spend more money for better quality parts. Cheep won't work here for the Ram's.

I installed a HID kit from Retrosolutions and it worked right out of the box and was completely plug & play except for the wiring harness's positive (+) wire and ground (-) wire. You get 2 resistors that you need to screw down and connect to a body ground (-). I also had to drill 1" hole in the back of the headlight cap for the wires and the bulbs come with a gasket to go in the hole.

The kit was for low beam H11, 55 watt ballasts and 5000K bulbs.
No problems, no bulb flickering, and no bulb out warning.

I don't remember the website I got them from, but I did a quick search and this is what mine look like. I did have to drill a hole in the rear of the headlights to get the bulb and wiring in there, but so far no issues with that. The wiring harness is at the bottom of the page. Looks like they're less expensive now than when I got mine.

And, most importantly, do NOT touch the bulb or let it get any kind of residue on it while you're installing them. That's a HID killer for sure

I agree with the others, HID's are the way to go. I am faced with the same problem so what I did was buy a set of rectangle LED's and hooked them up just inside my grille and bumper. There is a slotted space about 3" in the bumper. They fit perfect and light up my life. They are hooked up in sync with my factory fogs and they should last 20,000 plus hours until a stone finds them. Cross my fingers that that doesn't happen.
