The only Dodge my family ever owned was a K car...needless to say nobody ever even thought of owning a Chrysler product since then...till 2009 when my "dumbass" brother in law bought a Dodge Ram 1500 QC with the hemi and 6 speed. Ok, he's not a total dumbass now but the things he's done and tried to do with this Dodge, well, impressed me with the durability of it. 150k miles later on original powertrain he's still driving it, abusing it, and loving it. I had gone to the "dark side" (jap cars/trucks) since 1995 after a HORRIBLE experience with the "F" brand, and have nothing bad to say about Nissan and Toyota (although I have my issues with T too). In fact, I have kept them even now since they have been 100% trouble free in the reliability department.

I was not in any immediate need but since the newest vehicle in my "fleet" was bought in 2002, I decided it was time to start shopping for something that wasn't older than my son. Test drove just about everything, yes, even the ecocrap "F" just to know how lucky I am to own this Ram in comparison. Sorry "F" owners, if you had been through the wringer with "F" the way I had you'd feel the same way.

So, basically, this Ram is a BIG gamble for me since every domestic I've owned since the 70's has been a turd compared to even the worst Jap product I've owned. I REALLY hope this Ram will be the "one" that makes me say "America is finally on top again". Everyone's experience will differ but those of you who haven't owned a Nissan/Toyota can't really understand/appreciate the level of dependability the Japs have managed to attain. They aren't perfect but they are good. Kudos to Ram for socking it to them on pricing and features. Keep up the good fight!

I went with a 13 ram cause it looks nice next to my 09 ram in the driveway.
Seriously the 09 has been so good I stayed with ram for the 13
I went with the 09 originally to eliminate costs stemming from a lease return, and 0% financing.

I was going to start shopping this fall but the announcment of 2013 GM truck incentives that were supposedly sky high and not likely to come again for years, I started shopping.

I wanted to look at the RAM due to all the accolades it had been drawing. Mileage is a big consideration for me so I ruled out the toyota right away. I hate the local Ferd dealer and then found out the ecoboost was having all kinds of issues, so I narrowed it down to Ram and GM.

I'll be honest, I worked a number of GM dealers hard and would have likely taken anything cheaper in GM I liked, even though the technology was dated--I like reliability and GM's in the last model years have been very good to me over the years.

However even though GM was supposedly pulling out all the stops to rid themselves of 13's as 14's started arriving on lots, RAM had by far the better deals. I couldn't get Chevy or GMC dealers to get within 2,000 of the eventual deal I worked out on my Ram.

Loved the RAM right off but the honeymoon was short lived--still awaiting a radio fix and the voice recognition system is pretty much non-functional. Mileage was bad to start but now that has improved quite a bit into respectable (for me) territory. Towing mileage on the other hand--I think I'd give the new diesel a long look if I was to buy again base on my first few towing forays. Love the engine/tranny combo though!

Some interesting answers here. Though I am usually a very practical guy, all things considered, the Ram had many more creature comforts for the buck, and the RamBox sold me,but my wife and I also really thought the Ram was the best looking truck, by far. I really think that the F Series trucks have gotten to be pretty ugly.

(hopefully not too long winded, but you did ask!)

I bought my 2013 RAM as my first new vehicle and my first truck. Previously I had an Audi A4 (quattro, black on black, leather, cold weather pkg, premium audio pkg, etc etc) and a pair of Eagle Talons and finally my first car, '89 Chev Cavalier Z22.

I'm typically a GM/Chev Truck fan. I like the styling, my dad drove Chev trucks, it was the family brand. I'm not a fan of Ford trucks; apart from the Raptor - I don't like the styling. I'm not a fan of the interior either. THat being said, I was super amazed by the space and comfort of the Ford Flex.

Dodge, i guess the dealers most notably, never really echoed "reliability" or "customer satisfaction" and "quality" as priorities. Maybe I'm just jaded by my experiences with both my Talons. But I digress..

For me, the aesthetics of the RAM Truck have always been eye-catching and edgy... that is of course to say after '94 and its initial redesign. Was it ever enough to sway me from dreaming of a Chev/GM (GM, my pref) one day over a RAM? Not really. But when I read the C&D review for the 2012 models, RAM walked away with top spot. I thought, well ... maybe it's worth a serious look. The comfort and seating position of the RAM suited me better than the 2013 Chev I test drove. The RAM felt smoother and more refined than the Chev i test drove. I could see more of the road and my surroundings in the RAM; I felt better about where the front and back of the truck were in the RAM. The Chev, not so much. I felt more physically connected to the RAM than I did the Chev.

So I started researching the different models. The numbers and talk of the Pentastar and ZF 8spd were energetic and impressive. 300+hp, 24mpg (hwy)... the excitement of those who reviewed the pairing was contagious. I became a fan too. I tried parking my 6'3" 280lb ass in the back seat of the Quad cab... had no idea I suffered from claustrophobia. Sat in a Crew Cab, set the drivers seat to where I'd want it then sat behind myself. I literally said "This is how comfortable my passengers/family should be."

Crew Cab? Sold
Pentastar & 8spd? Sold
RAM's overall comfort & amenities in my price point? Sold

3,800 miles with mostly commuting traffic, a couple 3hr trips to see family and one 13hr trip through the BC Rockies & back.... I'm still very proud of and very much still in love with my truck.

:there needs to be a smiley hugging a ram truck:

New guy here. I have owned

1976 Couger XR-7 - Great motor
1984 Escort - Took the abuse I gave it
1992 Escort - Bought close to new and a great car.
2000 Kia Sportage - Tough little suv but build quality lacking
2003 Mitsubishi Outlander - Great vehicle
2008 Chevy Aveo - Bought for economy - Chrysler had no equivalent at time

Also had a 89 GMC Sierra 2500 - Beater truck that I could do anything to

Finally My wife has had mainly chrysler since her first car a 94 Ford Festiva.

She has had a

2003 Dodge SX2.0 (Neon)
2007 Jeep Compass
2010 Grand Caravan
2013 Dodge Journey (loaded)

I was used to dealing with Chrysler. When time came where I got sick of my Aveo, I had been looking at many different vehicles from all manufacturers mostly small SUVs. I had started to want something for me, I was looking at the Dodge Challenger and Charger V6 cars as a good alternative. One of my needs is good mileage as I drive about a 100Km a day but it is mostly highway. The dealer put me onto a truck, a V6 8sp Ram Quad Cab. I loved it and was shocked at the power.

So now I am one month in with my Ram 1500 8sp, SXT trim with bare essentials. (anything is luxury after the Aveo) I am 3000Km in and am getting 10.5 to 11.5 L/100 which is phenomenal for a truck and it has been getting better as it is breaking in.

Looking forward to long term ownership.

395 hp, factory dual exhaust, 20" chrome wheels and more rear leg room than the center seat of my suburban.

Actually a few weeks before I bought my truck, I had the pleasure of getting upgraded to an RT challenger for a rental for a day. I was sold the moment I hit the key. I had a bad case of Hemi-itis

I needed 6 seats, so the ram was a no brainier. My kids love it.

One surprising find, 2-3 mpg better than my burb all the time.

This may not make a lot of sense but I've always driven Ford vehicles. The last 4 were F150's that I was perfectly happy with. I thought I would see what I had been missing by not owning a Dodge RAM so I went to a local dealer and purchased a new 2013 Laramie Longhorn Limited yesterday. Man is this a nice truck. The only thing I notice at first is that my 2010 F150 Screw had a noticeably smoother ride but that's not that important to me. It's going to take me a year to learn to use all of the electronic gadgets.

The power of the 5.7 is awesome. I just hope I can keep my foot out of it. LOL!
