Question 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4x2 Transmission Issue?

My daughter recently purchased a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4x2 Automatic. We need help diagnosing a problem.
Issue:
While going up a hill the truck went to downshift to gain more power. The truck transmission sounded like it slipped then the RPM shot way up. She let off the gas to drop the RPM and let the truck coast then stepped back on the gas and it was basically like the truck was in Neutral. She was stuck in the middle of the road with a truck that would not move. She called for help and by the time it got there the truck had cooled off. When the truck was started back up it shifted into gear and was able to be driven a little further down the road. Once the truck got hot it started the same issue again. Any ideals on what the issue could be? Any suggestions on things to try to further diagnose the issue? She loves this truck and wants to try to fix it instead of selling it.

How's the fluid level? I could be wrong, but if that's the same transmission that the old Jeep Grand Cherokees used, I think it's fairly cheap to rebuild. Also, worst case, you may find a low mileage one from the rust belt, like Maine where salt eats trucks like crazy.

Fluid and filters were changed yesterday. Took a test drive and once the truck got hot it did the same thing again. It wouldn't pull itself up hills. Again it is just like it is stuck in Neutral. Once we got it home from the test drive and checked the transmission fluid again it was overfull.

We have found a 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 4x2 with a 5.9 automatic. Will parts from that truck interchange with our 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4x2 5.9 automatic
