Default What size tires fit?

Hey guys, I don't know much about tires. So here goes. I have a 2012 Ram crew cab sport. Stock rims for now. Looking to get Nitto trail grapplers, and put them on my stockers for now. Will get rims later down the road. What size is right for me? No bilstein 5100s but I do plan on getting them soon. I can wait and get the bilstiens first if I need to.

Thanks guys.

Definitely get the Bilsteins first. That way you can fit a larger tire.

Check out the leveled section of the forum HERE. You'll find tons of information and pictures about what fits and what doesn't and what your set up will look like.

With the Bilsteins set at max you will be able to fit full 35x12.5's but using your stock rims will limit you on that. With an aftermarket rim it will work no problem (provided you get the correct offset). With stock rims you can fit a 35x12.5 on with 1/4" wheel spacers. The problem is that Nitto Trail Grapplers actually measure 13.5" wide.... that's where you'll have problems. Personally I'd wait until you can get rims and tires at the same time. You'll end up with a nicer set up and save money in the long run by buying a package deal. If you want some pricing on wheel/tire packages email the guys at Bully's Performance at sales@bullysperformance.com. Be sure to mention that you're a forum member and they'll hook you up with great pricing on everything you need.

If you want to stick with the stock rims and put bigger tires you can run up to a 285 wide tire with no spacers... typically anything wider will require 1/4" wheel spacers. Lots of guys run 295/60/20's when they're leveled.... again, you'll see a lot of that looking through the threads in the leveled section.

What kind of offset would you suggest with the 35 x 12.5 Trail Grapplers to help prevent rub? Do you thing +6 would be sufficient?

A +6 offset on a 9" wide wheel will clear them no problem. If you want a bit of a wider stance then go with a 0 or -12 offset.

I was running 20x9 -12 offsets with 35x12.5 Toyo MT's on my 1500. There's lots of pictures in my wheel/tire thread if you want to see how that looks. +6 offset wheels would tuck everything in 3/4" further under the truck than the set up I had.

I was looking at the Dick Cepek Torques 17 x 8.5 with a + 6 offset, but I'm afraid that even with the bilsteins at 2.8, I will be rubbing the Trail Grabbers and their 13.19 inch width.

You'll clear that set up no problem. I don't expect that you'll rub at all, if you do it will be very slightly and easily fixed with a few nylon ties to hold the inner fender back.

We'll see how it works out. I can find tons of info/pics about 20's but the 17's info is limited. THANKS!

All the info for a 20" diameter wheel is applicable to a 17" diameter. The diameter of the wheel doesn't change anything as far as clearance goes. It's the width, offset, and tire size that makes the difference.

gonefishin776 is running 17x8.5 wheels with 35x12.5 tires. Do a quick search for him and check out his truck.
