Default Installing Flowmaster Super 44

Hello all, I just purchased my first Ram truck this week so I am new to both this forum and to the Dodge truck world in general. I bought a used 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT w/ the 5.7 Liter V8 Hemi.

The very first modification I want to do is to give it some better sound. It looks like the previous owner at some point replaced the OEM muffler with a bolted-on Walker Quiet-Flow muffler (everything immediately upstream and downstream of the muffler looks to be the original single line exhaust system). After listening to countless YouTube videos and reading many posts on this forum, I have decided I'd like to go with the Flowmaster Super 44 instead. For now, I'm only looking to replace the muffler and keep the rest of the system intact.

I have a few questions for you all regarding the installation of the new muffler.

1) Inlet and Outlet sizing: I measured the outer circumference of the exhaust piping and it is roughly 9.5", which would mean the OD is 3". Since I plan on simply cutting out the old muffler and bolting on the new one, if I buy the flowmaster with a 3" diameter inlet and outlet, will that fit into/onto the existing pipe and allow me to clamp it?

2) Length of assembly: The existing muffler measures 29.5" in length plus 4" on either end for the inlet and outlet connections, so 37.5 inches overall length. The flowmaster 44 I am going to order is 19" overall (including the 3" connections). This means I will need to add 18.5" of pipe (plus overhang to connect into existing pipe) in order for this to fit into the space the old muffler took up. Where can/should I buy straight pipe and how much additional length for overhang should I buy?

3) Mounting: I plan on clamping on the piping connections, but what is the best method for mounting the muffler itself? Do I need to take it into a shop and have them weld it onto the existing bracket or is there an easier method I could perform myself (aka no welding necessary)?

4) I do consider myself relatively handy, but do you have any tips, tricks, or advice for installation that I may have not considered?

Thanks for reading, I appreciate any feedback.
