Default my head hurts

this is my first post so it may be a little long as this truck is what led me here. 1996 1500 4x4 5.9l started by blowing the fuel pump fuse. replaced and found the relay cycling after some digging found that the auto trans relay was cycling also and the only way to get the fuel pump to stop was by pulling the auto trans relay?? got codes for intermittent crank or cam sensor so replaced both now truck runs very rough and tach stays at about 4500rpm but is actually more like 500rpm still will not run if the auto trans relay is in. thanks in advance for any help.

thanks, Gary

I've looked at this thread and scratched my head. Since Dana was so kind as to bump it, I'm going to PM ramvan2500 since he's a trans guru and see if he can think of anything.

Default Update...possible pcm?

since posting this i have been arguing with this truck. it would not let me erase the codes/my scanner so unhooked batt. and dumped codes now i can put trans relay in but ended up with codes 0113,0118,0123,and 1492. these all came up as soon as i turned the key on without even trying to turn over the engine. i am thinking pcm mainly because of codes popping up before even trying to turn over . oh ya now it will not start again. trying to get this running for a friend and he dosen't have the $$ to be throwing parts at it so want to be sure before i tell him to buy a PCM. thanks in advance again for any help on this.

Gary

Sorry I am so late, I have been busy studying. I think your problem is with the PCM, if you check out a LKQ you can pull one for oh I think 40 bucks, you can get the PCM out of the Dodge Ram van if they don't have any pickups, just make sure the van you pull from has the same engine and same year and that's all. I don't think the issue is transmission related, it is obviously electrical and I would bet good money that either the PCM is the fault of some wiring short, if it is a wiring short it most likely killed the PCM, the tach signal comes from the PCM and well if your tach is reading 4500RPM and this is assuming the tach is good then the PCM is screwed up.
