Default Double DIN Install with mods

Well after reading this post, I have decided to undertake it as well. I ordered all my parts today including the Kenwood eXelon DNX6990HD.

I am doing a little different install as I have the Laramie package with 7 speakers, steering wheel controls, sat radio and no console. I previously swapped out the single CD head unit for an eBay acquired 6 disc changer. Reason was I am a satellite radio fanatic an hated not having the Info button. I have already swapped the speakers out with JL Audio and eliminated the center dash speaker. I plan on keeping the steering wheel controls, and using the stock sat radio antenna. Am also adding a small powered sub and either rear headrest monitors or an overhead console for the kiddies, but the video will come later.

I will post pics as well and let you know how I fare.

And I decided this was going to be my splash screen as it loads...

Default The Double DIN saga continues

Well I am a glutton for punishment. Since I am taking the radio out, I do not want to do it multiple times, I have added a reverse camera and headrest monitors to my project. All but the antenna adapter and camera are in, so as soon as it comes in, the work will commence. I went with a wireless camera setup, so no RCA cable under the truck to the cab. I have gotten the wiring harness from the KW and the PAC connected and soldered. Working on adding the parking brake resistor kit now. My parts list is as follows in the text file. Any thoughts on what I might be doing right or wrong?

Default All Done

It's all in and working. GPS works great, Sat radio took a little tweaking on the stock antenna fitting to make it fit a little tighter on the new unit. The wireless rear camera comes on instantly, but occasionally has a little interference but nothing I can't live with. Once the weather warms I am going to experiment with antenna placement to see if gets better.

The Tview monitors went in VERY easily, and with the help of a fish tape were easily able to route the RCA and power cables where I wanted them. Picture quality is exceptional, and they were around $100 at Amazon.

The Head Unit requires a PhD to run however. There are sooooo many configurable options, it will take days or weeks to learn all the ins and outs. My only complaint is while using Sat radio, you get the station info but not the song and artist.

All in all, was not a bad install. Thanks to the previous poster for his wisdom.

Awesome post. Thanks for the detailed pics and instructions. This definitely makes conversions and installations like this a lot easier.

Im not really concerned about navigation but do miss the Bluetooth connectivity from my phone for calls and streaming music. I see the opening in the trim piece for navigation is quite larger than the aftermarket unit due to it having buttons and knobs around the outside edge, hence the extended black trim pieces around the aftermarket unit. Not in any way slamming your install because it looks great but Im looking for a tighter fit so the install looks more factory. That may mean I will have to go with the factory unit. Does anyone know if the factory unit has Bluetooth Connectivity for phone integration and streaming ?
