I don't put much stock in manufacturers claims of gas mileage. They hire professional drivers and every detail in their testing environment is "ideal". It has nothing to do with real life driving. jmho

This optimizes fuel economy when V-6 power is not required – without sacrificing vehicle performance or capability.
The Pentastar is designed so that MDS could be utilized at a later date. Currently, no Pentastars have MDS, and the latest news is that they may never get MDS.

I do know though on my 2009 ram with the Hemi, when it cuts to 4 cylinders it says fuel saver. I figured the ECO light was just a way to let you know that you were driving efficiently and saving fuel. Kind of a way to get you to drive more GREEN. not really a system activation or anything.
When I purchased my 09 Ram, the 'fuel saver' light was directly linked to the 'fuel saver technology', aka MDS system.

Fuel saver light would come on and go out in 100% synch with MDS.

Later, immediately after a flash at the dealer, the fuel saver light was no longer in synch with the MDS system. It came on whenever your were 'driving in an efficient manner' and was no longer dependent upon MDS activation.

The 'fuel saver' light on earlier models is the predecessor to the ECO light on newer vehicles.

Wrong forum, buddy. This is for the 3.6L V6.

You might get some helpful advice here, but your best bet is in the 5.7L HEMI forum

You have to get a tuner to turn MDS off.

there is no date on the article posted, but from the contents it 2009 or 2010...
i am pretty sure there is no mds on the 3.6.
the eco light only tells you when you are driving in an efficient way; i think you can turn this off in the evic menu.

well, i kinda wonder if it doesn't have MDS - I just drove about 800 miles in my new 2014 CC and i noticed when cruising at 70-75mph, I felt what I interpreted as "lugging" when climbing a hill or on an incline and the eco light was on. I'll be more attentive and see if I can feel any other modes.

just looked at the 2014 brochure. it doesn't call out MDS for the 3.6 but does for other motors. I doubt it has MDS. eco mode is just throttle position/vacuum reading. still useful.

I have the Pentastar in my Jeep and I always thought the ECO light meant I was driving it in an ECOnomic manner, i.e. for maximum fuel efficiency.

Seems to come on when I'm just cruising easily at low RPM's.
