4wd systems

Is there more than one type of 4x4 system on 2013 RAMs?
Which models come with what package and how do you tell which one you have?

I do believe I read somewhere on the forum that there are actually 2 different ones. I know my Big Horn has 2wd, 4wd auto, 4wd lock, and 4wd Low, but I think there are others with just 2wd, 4wd lock, and 4wd low. I honestly don't know what models come specifically with which 4x4 though....:4-dontknow:

Full time 4wd (with 4auto) is available on the higher end trucks, I believe starting with the Lone Star/Bighorn. Part time 4wd (no auto) comes on the lower trim line trucks. This is because the trucks with full time 4wd have the Borg Warner 44-44 transfer case which is a full time transfer case, whereas the trucks without auto have the BW 44-45 case which is a part time transfer case.

IMO if you live where you will drive in snow or icy conditions the 4 auto is a must!

CastielHEMI 11-16-2013 02:53 PM

Depends on what transfer case you have the BW 44-44 or the BW 44-45.

The Borg and Warner 44-44 is the auto on while the BW 44-45 is the lower end model without auto on.

As far as trim lines are concerned, I believe this is correct:

BW 44-44:
-Laramie Limited
-Laramie Longhorn
-Laramie
-Sport
-Outdoorsman
-Bighorn/ Lone Star

BW 44-45:
-Tradesman
-Express
-SLT (I'm not entirely sure on this one, but I believe SLTs have the 44-45)

My 2013 Outdoorsman 4x4 1500 does't have the Auto 4 wheel drive. The Outdoorsman is an upgraded SLT.

My Lone Star is an upgraded SLT as well and has 4WD auto. That's weird because Outdoorsmans are a slightly higher trim line with a higher starting price.

I attached a picture of my 4 wheel drive selector and there is no Auto 4 wheel drive on my Outdoorsman.

Yes the Outdoorsman is a mans 4 wheel drive with many more off road options that come as standard package options and not a 4x4 pavement prowler. LOL. :LOL:

Outdoorsman package.

22T = Six cylinder, eight speed trans ***(what I have)***
25T = Eight cylinder, six speed trans
26T = Eight cylinder, eight speed trans

T = Outdoorsman
Z = Big Horn

Even though I don't have this feature.. I agree that it is great to have in snow and icy conditions. All of my dads GMCs/ chevs in the past all had the feature and it was all he would use. Especially when he decided randomly that he didn't like the look of that snow bank and it needed to be destroyed :hah:
