Pentastar V6 and a 5.0 F-150

OK, before you keep reading I need to tell you that this Pentastar V6 is in my wife's 2013 Dodge Avenger, not my truck. Feel free to bug out if you wish. But, I wanted to give some love to our V6 guys out there. This story is totally fake and of course, never really happend.

I was cruising in the Avenger at 35mph (the speed limit) on a 4 lane road, in the right lane, and up behind me comes a new F-150 5.0 like I am in his way. There was no one in the left lane, but I suppose he didn't feel like moving over. He is tailgating me like a freak so I simply let off the throttle and begin to coast. Once we hit about 25mph, he swerves violently to the left lane and guns it.

Those of you that haven't been in the newer V6 avenger may not know that it pushes near 300hp with a 6 speed and the car flat gets it.

I was pissed so I put it to the floor about the time the F-150 got almost side by side, his loud exhaust screaming. At 65, he was a car length behind me and I shut it down. He kept on it, went by, and swerved in front of me.

Our eyes met on his way by. He had anger in his face as he saw my wife was laughing at him, or maybe is was just his inherent douchbaggyness.

Maybe he got bogged down by his EcoBoost? lol

I drove an F-150 with the 5.0 for a week while I was in Vegas. I gotta say, I was not impressed, with anything. My 8 year old 4.7 has more gumption than that Ford POS. I couldn't even chirp the tires. I had to do a power brake burn out to get the tire (it was a 1 tire fryer) to break lose. What a POS!

My neighbor has a dark blue 2012 CC 5.0 and it runs pretty good, it's definitely not slow. He doesn't race it but I road in it while he pushed it and it felt pretty good to me. Nice kill, sounds like a fair race to me.

^I would think they are pretty strong, just ugly! Much prefer one to an EcoBoost.

One of the guys here had one (F-150 5.0L) in the 11's. He had gears, stall, nitrous, slicks. Not sure what they run stock but it seems the Avenger is a quick car w/ great power to weight ratio.

This just sounds like fanboy spinning reality here.
The 5.0 in the Ford's will flat crush your 4.7 if comparing apples to apples in truck configuration.
Let's keep it real.
The fact is, the 5.0 has acceleration times equal to the Ram Hemi 5.7 from the 2009-2012 model year with the 6 speed auto.

Too the op, why did you let off at 65, you should of gone a bit longer to put a bit more space between you. hehe

Your joking right? When I bought my 2010 Ram my buddy bought a 2011 Ford 5.0, we raced and it wasn't even close!

darkstar 11-04-2013 11:01 PM

you do realize there is a ford shop whos parts truck is a 5.0 ext cab f150 on 20's, that ran 12.9's with bolt ons and radials

Butter 11-04-2013 11:54 PM

If you took the same money it cost to get that 5.0 Ford to run a 12.9 and spent it on a pos 5.3 Chevy it would be even faster but thats not the point because were talking stock trucks.

It's no secret that a Ram cost more to go faster but with all trucks stock the 5.0 is nowhere near my 5.7 from start to finish!
