Solid rear bench seat back fold down mod (pics)

This is my first write up. I have 2012 express crew cab. Need space for future amp install and more space in general

The mod is super easy and super fast. Thanks to all the other info on this forum. Whole thing takes 30 minutes

1. Fold bottom up.
2. Remove 4 seat bracket bolts. (18mm)
3. Slightly lift seat on each side in order to "unhook" the rear seat back.
Then you can easily fold seat back down.
4. Measure 5/8 from the two hooks. It ends up being just where the plastic sleeve ends, but measure anyways.
5. Take a simple hacksaw and cut, not hard at all and my blade was old. Cut the little plastic under the 5/8. Essentially removing 5/8 of plastic and metal.
6. Bolt seat back in and done.

I'm super happy with results. It should have come like this from factory.

Does this make it so when you bolt it back in that you can just hinge it forward whenever you want? How well does the seat back stay up when it's back in the original position? I'm assuming it doesn't clip back in by the hooks, so I wouldn't want it flopping forward any time I hit the brakes hard.

Works exactly like before. Nothing moves or is loose. Bottom stays up like always. Only difference is. While folding bottom up there is a point that the seat back moves up towards ceiling. In that brief spot. You can pull seat back down if you want. If not. The seat bottom will just go up like before.

It does clip back. I can't get a camera to show you but the hook is still like 2 inches past the loop when locked.

Great write up man :rep:...when I installed my fox box, the spacers made it easy, and works like a charm. Great for quick adjustments. Nice job!

I just completed this mod on my 2013 CC Outdoorsman. I cut 5/8" off the hooks. Works great and thanks for the write up with pictures.

No the spacers are 5/8", so it takes the place of having to cut the hooks. If you were to install the spacers and cut the metal hooks, it would be too high and wouldn't latch back like normal.

that is what i was thinking so i asked first , thanks

This seems like a great idea. My only concern would be does this make the backseat unsafe in any way during an accident. I have kids so unless I knew for sure there is no way I would take a chance.

Good question; it would be my concern as well. Other than that a great idea.
