Well after all the looking and comparing i finally went for a RCX 4" lift kit with a set of 35. 12.5R20 Mickey Thompson tyres to set it off giving it a total lift of nearly 6" and i'm very pleased with the set up. Still cant get the photo's to upload :4-dontknow:.

Which leaves me with a nearly new set of 275/60R20 tyres ( 800 miles-ish) pair of OEM shocks and a Pro Comp leveling kit up for sale if any of the England crew are interested at offers around £650 for the lot..

That's because you just pasted the link into your post. You have to click on the icon just above the quick reply message box that looks like a box w mountains in it. Then paste into that.

Nice plate btw! How much did that cost you?

LowUFO i'll give that a go....

My missus always says that my plate cost more than her car,its classed as a cherished plate which you can transfere to any car via our DVLA. Most people have one's with their initials etc.

My plate was £4,250, approx $7,000. abit pricey but a good investment as it's the only one in the country, although it will go with the truck when it's sold.

Put the whole URL. Make sure you left click in the little window that pops up after you hit that image icon. Once you click in it, it will highlight the "http" letters that are in there already. You're going to just replace those with yours. Once they are highlighted blue, you will just right click and paste over that. Cuz you don't need "http:" twice.

I know that wouldn't be cheap. I grew up in England so I remember how much private plates cost. I remember a bloke in Eastbourne w BAD S on his 911. I always loved that plate. My mate had his initials and paid like three thou. Over here in Canada you just pay a few hundred dollars and ask the DMV for whatever you want. They either approve it, don't approve it if they think it's inappropriate, or they give it to you if it's available. A couple of my friends here have snuck some pretty crazy plates past them. Such as ERGNTPRK (arrogant prick) BUKAKE (you can look that one up for yourself), and PRNKING (porn king). I always wanted a lifted truck and the plate UP YOURS..

Is that not the original size of the pic as you have it in Photobucket? Because that's weird if its larger in Photobucket than here.

Yeah petrol is brutally expensive there. If I still lived there, I would be driving a Golf TDI.

As much fun as it would be, i've spent far too much on this truck to be flinging around a muddy field collecting dents and scratches on the paint, the hood on my old truck was a SRT10 hood unfortunately dodge don't make them for the newer one's otherwise I would have had that at the top of my shopping list, i know you can get the carbon fibre or the fiberglass one's but I'm old school and like and prefer the metal one's.

I know it has been a while since you've posted up on here britplod, but I figured I'd give it a shot and see if you could answer a couple of questions for me?

The wife and I are possibly moving to the UK in the next couple of years. My Ram is the nicest truck I have ever owned, and I would LOVE to bring it with us when we come over. A couple of concerns I have are: Can you get proper service over there for these trucks (factory type service) in case of issues? If so, where have you gotten yours serviced, and are they any good? Is it really difficult driving your truck over there due to the small roads, or are you ok as long as you don't go into small village roads etc? How are they legislation-wise with mods (lift etc)? Are they allowed?

Thanks in advance for any info you might be able to share, my wife is a Brit, and my parents were Brit so we are looking forward to the possibility of coming back to blighty.

Rather than the pickup version I've got the Day Van. I'll be having it converted to LPG this afternoon due to the excessive petrol (gas) prices.

In terms of servicing you will have to investigate locally for an expert, but since they're still just cars, that shouldn't be too difficult. A lot of small garages specialise in imports of the Transatlantic variety and often run one or two for personal use. The one of this type closest to me imports old police cruisers which he strips out and remodels with newer police equipment. Parts can be a bit hard to source as there are just so many that an importer can hold at any one time. Fortunately Rock Auto can usually come to your aid and - even including transantlantic S&H - can work out no more expensive than sourcing them locally.

Yes, they can be a bit of a handful on some narrow back roads. Near to me there's one where I have to drive with the left hand wheels in the gutter and the right hand tyres bumping over the central divider cats' eyes (Bott's Dots). Mods such as lifts are acceptable, but be prepared for police interest (even if it's only to rubber neck) as it's vital to have an engineer's report to show that all aspects of safety regulations have been met.

So ... Welcome back home ex, ex-pat.

One important point: You can avoid a lot of the import duties if you can prove that you've owned and used the car in the states for at least 6 months prior to import.

^ Thanks so much for the reply! I appreciate the insight.

Good to know about the import taxes (although we will be coming over from Canada - I'm sure the same rules will apply). Also good to know that places like Rockauto can ship over there as well.

I have found a few places online that appear to specialize and work on the Rams, so that's great news.

Sounds like I'd be better off waiting to get my lift installed there as well, due to the certification you mentioned. I'd guess it's common if a place there installs lifts, they'd be up on that sort of thing.

Again thanks for the help, and I'll be sure to keep my eye on the UK forum here!

Cheers!

Yes; it's the same for Canada. Both my previous Jeep Grand Cherokee and the current Dodge came from there and I've seen the import duty waivers.

On the whole reasonable lifts up to 4" can be carried out on a DIY basis with little interference from the authorities, but if you cock it up or have an accident without informing your insurer you could be in serious trouble. At worst they can cancel the policy and you will be deemed to have been driving without insurance. These days the car will be seized and crushed if that happens!

Enjoy your return to civilization.

Waterboy sorry about the late reply, Sir Henry has just about covered your questions, the only thing I can add is find yourself a good mechanic I found mine thru word of mouth he not only works on American trucks but also owns and drives one. you'll get used the "small" roads over here. Parts are easy to get hold of, USAutomotives are a good company to deal with and their service I have always found to very good having parts to you within the week in some cases. As for your lift kit you are having done, I told my insurance company and they were fine with it with no further premiums check out Adrian Flux they specialise in American vehicles. As long as you get the lift done properly and safely you shouldn't get any problems with the Po-Po, being an ex traffic police officer myself the only thing if they want to get picky is the tyre's make sure that they don't stick outside the wheel arches too much you are legally allowed 1" anything over that and it may draw there attention and might be worth getting some wheel arches to cover the extra. I have a rough country 4" lift with 35" Mickey Thompson's. Also check if you have tinted driver and passenger windows, if you have and they are too dark that will cause you to be pulled and the tint checked I got pulled by one of my own and had checked 45% max mine was 75% and was told to peel it at the road side before I was allowed to pull away, get a stroppy cop and you'll be issued with what we call a P.G 9 which basically means your MoT which you will also have to have on a yearly basis is suspended and you are not allowed to drive the vehicle until the infringement has been rectified and the checked by the police (usually a traffic officer) that it is within the law. Hope this helps you mate.
