I like working on vehicles if I have time fiddle. Currently I have no space to work on them so the debate between newer vehicles or a garage and more tools is ongoing. There have been a few tempting vehicle deals but I have been leaning towards a garage in the last few months. Then the wife brings up moving to a bigger house with a garage…

I work for a restaurant group and I get to travel a fair amount for work, mainly Canada and UK.

A few times a year I get roped into volunteering with different events through work or family. That normally leads to loading, unloading, and driving vehicles around.

No exciting hobbies to speak of, beyond my love of procrastination.

Up until a few years ago if asked I could tell you my ideal vehicle and the vehicle that best suited my needs. These days I keep flip flopping over what is the best compromise for my current needs. I think Iíd be happy with a Chevy Impala, an AWD Buick Enclave, a Tesla Model S P85, a lowered Ram 1500 Laramie 4x4 Crew SB, a raised Ford F150 Crew Raptor clone, and something for the wife to drive but that greatly exceeds driveway capacity, finance levels, and probable spousal approve ability.

Currently a wounded 2003 Dodge 1500, a 2003 Buick Regal, and a 2008 Ford Escape meet most personal needs and when they donít a quick trip to the rental counter fills most gaps. Cross boarder shopping is becoming an unfilled gap, but itís a hard one to fill as spending much money on it quickly makes it pointless. I like to head down to Washington and Idaho a few times a year, and hit Montana or other states on occasion.

My dad bought a run down late 50ís Fargo pickup when I was a kid that had been updated with a chevy nova front clip and a 350/350 combo. When I got my license it was my daily driver when I could afford to keep it running. As the reliable friend who did not drink I got a lot of seat time in my buddies vehicles and their parents vehicles which included (in order of my fondness); a Corvette Stingray, a Mercury Cougar, a lifted Toyota pickup, Diesel Jetta, a lifted Nissan pickup, a beater Mercury Comet, a Firebird, a Camaro, a few pickups, a Mustang with a leg cramping clutch, and my momís underpowered Toyota van. All got some use and abuse on the back roads and highways.

Since then Iíve owned and driven a lot of vehicles. The only one I miss is an í86 Chrysler New Yorker Turbo. Cheap to run, comfortable, handled well, and went like stink.

The Fargo remains but the other vehicles have all found their way to the junkyard, with one or two stopping by the demolition derby on the way.

Iím a high mileage driver that gets to drive a variety of vehicles for work and pleasure. Learned to drive on icy logging roads but these days driving is a mix of long highway trips and city driving.

I love to drive. I have a decent sense of direction and like to take the secondary highways when I can.
